Trash-Proof News Releases
Reviewer Comments/Testimonials
I'm not exactly a novice in this biz...and I learned stuff just by skimming through it.
Paul Krupin has put together a comprehensive, enlightening resource with this book. Krupin cuts to the case and delivers sure-fire ways to develop a news release. I guarantee anyone who reads it will write a better news release!

"Trash-Proof" stands out because of its reliance on hard data: Krupin has developed a far-reaching media database in his fee-for-service news release distribution business, and much of the book is drawn from either a direct analysis of this powerful resource--or survey responses from journalists. When Krupin tells you the media like a certain angle or format, he knows--because he went out and asked them. Both his media distribution
service and his book are powerful parts of the successful publicist's toolbox.

"Paul Krupin's 'Trash Proof News Release' covers the entire gamut of the how, why, when and where of news release construction, delivery and follow-up in today's fast evolving media environment. Even more importantly, Paul gives you every answer, with concrete examples, for success time and time again. Very nicely written, direct, clear and to the point. As there are so many possible points, this is an amazing achievement! I heartily recommend it to anyone!"

If you're going to take the time and energy to send out a news release, wouldn't it be wise to take a small amount of that time to learn to do it right? I couldn't think of a better guy to learn this from than Paul J. Krupin. Paul has been in this business for years and has sent out hundreds of thousands of news releases. If anyone knows how to play this game, it's Paul. He's the hands-down expert.

Marketing a debut novel to the media is no easy task, and I have found Paul Krupin's advice both frank and pointed. His "Trash Proof News Releases" is as good a "how-to" as you could wish for, while his down-to-earth style shows all the hallmarks of a true professional.

Before I read Trash-Proof Press Releases, editors welcomed my press releases like they were subpoenas wrapped inside overdue bills. Now after reading the clear, easy and inspiring 100-plus proven releases in Trash-Proof, I've used its techniques on everything from publicizing Net events to electronic newsletters. The editors who once treated my releases with the respect dogs do fire hydrants, now open and read them like they were the winning prize notification form Publishers Clearinghouse.

I really enjoyed your electronic version of Trash Proof News Releases. However, for ease of use, I did, in fact, print it and placed it in a three ring binder for quick reference purposes. It works great!
To prove your concepts work, about two months after learning and starting to use your concepts of hard-hitting, no "fluff", benefit-laden headlines and copy (to not waste the time of busy editors) I managed to have a full-page article, featuring my small (but successful) business featured in the premier, first edition issue of January, 2000, INC. Magazine. I was told by the western regional ad representative that that ONE page was/is worth about $55,000 if I had had to pay for it. From that issue, I was also phone-interviewed, only three days later, by the editor (who read the article in INC.) of one of my industry's most prominent trade journals, and that was published, as a quarter page article, in February, 2000, with an advertising value of about $2,500.
In addition, I was re-contacted two weeks ago by the INC editor. She did a ten minute follow-up interview, and informed me she'd be doing a 'follow-on' small article in the August issue. It's hard to put a price on that one, which will probably be only two paragraphs..., as part of a larger piece; however, it's 'something' and it's FREE. A one paragraph classified adv costs about $500 for one issue of INC, so two paragraphs (with the attached credibility of INC) should be worth another $1,000 in Free Publicity.
So..., I think even the most skeptical of businesspeople would agree that I got my 'money's worth' for investing in your $20 book! AND..., I'm still learning and can apply these concepts for the rest of my life.
Thank you, once again, for your knowledge and services.

Trash Proof News Releases gave me the inside scoop on how media producers and editors think and what they are looking for. As an unknown, self-published author on a budget, I averaged 2 radio interviews/newspaper articles a week for six months promoting my new book nationwide from my home. Paul J. Krupin helped me be my own great PR firm.

Paul Krupin's new book, Trash Proof News Releases: The Surefire Way to Get Publicity, should be in the library of every publishing house who wants to get the word out about its titles and authors. Further, it is an invaluable guide for authors, particularly those who are launching their books through the newer channels of publishing and who must carry the brunt of publicizing their books.
Why is this so? One, the book is thorough: Krupin outlines how to write an effective press release and liberally illustrates with strong examples from publicists in the field. He points out not only when to send out releases but how to focus the efforts. He points out the seemingly obvious but all too often overlooked issue of selecting appropriate recipients for the press releases and avoiding wasted effort and money. He discusses follow-up calls and gives tips for using e-mail to get news coverage. He does this and much more in clear, concise and compelling language.
Krupin, owner of Direct Contact, a company that specializes in sending press releases, is highly regarded in the independent press industry for his expertise in this area. He knows what he's talking about and publishers and authors would profit from his advice.

Thanks to your expertise, I was able to target distribution of news releases for my author client to Lifestyle editors and Senior editors throughout the country. Helping me "punch up" my release worked, because we got reviews in multiple publications, even the major metropolitan newspaper, The St. Petersburg Times! When you provided me with the data base and phone numbers of the editors, I followed up with the major papers and had great success.
By photocopying their reviews and sending them to radio stations, I was able to book my client on more than 300 radio shows in a year. His book sales soared to 30,000 in six months, a second printing followed and now and the publisher is preparing a second edition, all in 14 months! His book won the Independent Book Publishers Award in his category, and the publisher has bought his second book because of the success of the first one. And it all started with the press release through Direct Contact. Thanks for your
coaching. I've been writing releases for 25 years but times have changed...and so have pitches. I appreciate your expertise!

Paul J. Krupin describes himself as an attorney who types with two fingers. I wonder which two? However he does it, he does a great job. “Trash Proof News Releases” is chock full of excellent ideas, wonderfully written. It will contribute to the success of Autographed By Author.

Trash Proof News Releases is the most informative book I've ever read on getting your news noticed by the media. Paul Krupin goes the extra mile by not only giving accurate, valuable advice on what to produce and who to send it to, but also providing examples of
successful releases to study and learn from. Beginners and seasoned professionals will both learn from this rational, organized approach to grabbing your share of attention!

I have had much success as a result of your help in the last year. When we started our Marketing Company we didn't expect to become PR consultants. I believe finding you was a god send! You have given me great advice on how to create "Trash Proof News Releases" and we've been experiencing continuing growth because of it.
Our clients have been featured on radio, television, and published nationally and locally as a result of using "Trash Proof News Releases". We appreciate all the help.

"Trash Proof News Releases: The Surefire Way to Get Publicity” is loaded with
helpful, timely information and filled with advice from those on the receiving end of our marketing efforts--this compilation of expertise and examples will make the difference for many publishers, authors and speakers.
Even more frustrating than editing for an author or publisher with a micrscopic PR budget is working for one with a realistic budget, but no clue as to how to focus their efforts. This book will save them time, money and prevent that sinking feeling that comes to a new, small publisher when their lead book is entering its second year of publication and they are just now getting the hang of it.
Thank you for the time and effort, the years of experience, that went into Trash Proof News Releases and for sharing it with the rest of us.

I cannot thank Paul Krupin enough for "Trash Proof News Releases." It is ten times better than any of the other books or articles on writing releases that I have seen. There is sound, solid, proven advise; many quotes from the editors themselves who receive them; and best of all, a solid array of successful, proven releases to see what others have used and what has been successful. This is an invaluable tool for anyone who needs to promote their business, product, or self. It will pay for itself in a day.

"Trash-Proof News Releases" is one of the most useful, no-nonsense discussions of press releases that I have ever seen. Paul Krupin has done a service for all budding publicists. He has demystified the vital skill of creating effective news releases - news releases that actually “see print” in major news media.
All the news release tools and the explanations for using them are discussed. But more importantly, in Trash-Proof News Releases you find a wealth of effective, proven examples of news releases that actually worked to provide their subjects with significant publicity in the media. This brings a subtle dimension to the learning process that is probably impossible to achieve in any other way.
Helpful explanations of why these examples worked as well as general information on what works and what to stay away from are also presented.
But not all of the book is focused on just writing the news release. Also explained are the requirements for effectively distributing that news release, from the need to personalize properly, to the need to focus on appropriate media lists.
Many of us have found that the journey to effective publicity skills has many time-wasting wrong turns. Here at last we have a clear, concise explanation of one of its most important steps.

"There are so many secret jewels and hidden treasures in this book about how to market ANYTHING to the media that it ought to be buried and need a map to find it! This book holds within it secrets to gaining publicity that I had unsuccessfully searched far and wide for. It is the last book you will ever read on the subject, because once you have you will be too busy doing interviews to read!
"If you read this book and don't immediately start getting booked for press interviews, then you didn't read it closely enough. After struggling with gaining publicity for my book for over a year, with in 2 weeks of reading it I nailed the cover of Glamour Magazine and the phone has not stopped ringing. I've also doubled my sales and have done so much TV that I am starting to be recognized in public! This book is the first and last you will ever have to read on the subject--get it and get success/publicity now!"

Wow! when I saw your press releases, I could easily understand the caliber of the competition I faced in the marketplace. Following your lead, we make major changes in our approach to media releases and saw an immediate difference. Our local newspaper sent a reporter and a photographer to a seminar I presented. This led to to seminars and newspaper articles in other cities across the nation. The most significant achievement, however, is a book signing and discussion of my book, A Millennium Primer: Take Charge of Your Life, in the Barnes and Noble Book Store in Rockefeller Center, New
York! This opportunity is particularly important to me because the book is self-published. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your expertise.

Rarely can you find a publicity resource loaded with pages of factual information that will keep your press releases out of "File 13." Trash Proof News Releases for Getting Publicity showed me exactly how to structure my press release that would garner the attention it needed to get from news organizations throughout the country. The beauty of the book was in the countless suggestions by real media professionals who candidly told me what they read and what they trashed. And reviewing pages of actual press releases certainly gave me a good sense of how to create my own publicity campaign.
Trash Proof News Releases turned my publicity schedule into nonstop newspaper and radio interviews.
